Resident COVID-19

December 11, 2020

Dear Residents:

I am so sorry to have to share with you that we have a resident with COVID-19.  This resident tested positive during the night on December 10, 2020 after attending the Christmas party.  They are an active, engaged resident at Mesa Springs attending meals daily in the dining room.  Due to the large number of people directly exposed, we have to consider that staff and residents have all been exposed.

Effective immediately we have to go back into lockdown.

Activities
:

All events and activities that have been scheduled for the next 14 days must be cancelled. These include:

  • Mesa Breakfast;
  • Bible Study and Sunday Fellowship;
  • Senior Stretch;
  • Christmas Hymn singing;
  • Hand and Foot;
  • Bingo;
  • Bridge;
  • Christmas Light tour;
  • Campus home tour; and
  • Any other social gatherings.

Maintenance and Housekeeping:

A further infection control measure we are implementing is to restrict staff from entering resident homes during this 14-day period, barring an emergency.  This includes housekeeping and maintenance.

If you have any routine, non-emergency maintenance concerns during this time, please contact the office and we will determine how to address issues in the safest manner possible.

Emergency maintenance concerns should be reported as soon as possible and will be addressed.
Dining and Mail:

Effective today, December 11, 2020, the dining room will be closed, and we will go back to take out meals only.

  • If you are able to drive, we ask you to pick up your meal through the drive through as we did before, and you can continue to pick up your mail (following the precautions outlined below).
  • I you do not drive, we will deliver meals and mail to your home.

I know this is particularly hard during the holiday season as this lockdown will continue until Monday December 28, 2020.  However, given the surge in cases in the state and the increasing limitations for hospitals, we need to take all precautions to prevent or mitigate the spread of the virus into our community.

If we have no further positive cases after this 14-day period, we can then consider beginning to re-open common areas and holding events again.

We ask each of you to be diligent about taking the following precautions when you are outside of your home and especially when you are in common spaces/buildings in our Community:

  • Wearing a mask;
  • Practice good hand hygiene. Hand sanitizer can be found in several places in the common areas; and
  • Engage in good social distancing from others, remaining at least 6 feet away from others.

I would like to ask that each of you consider yourselves directly exposed if you have:

  • eaten in the dining room in the past 14 days;
  • attended senior stretch in the last 14 days; or
  • attended the Christmas party last night.

Please consider that you can infect others with the virus for quite some time after exposure to a positive individual and may evidence no or delayed signs or symptoms of the virus for several days (or never have any symptoms). Therefore, it is recommended that you limit engagement with others and limit off campus travel as much as possible for the next 14 days to protect yourselves, your loved ones/friends and your Mesa Springs neighbors.

We will keep you updated as we go through these next few days and weeks.  We are taking all reasonable steps to stop or mitigate the spread of the virus. Please pray that this stays an isolated case, and your assistance following the above guidelines will help to keep it one.

Sincerely,

Cindy Spencer, Executive Director
